Awesome Butterflies Screensaver 2.4

Awesome Butterflies Screensaver, like all the other screensavers offered by free-slideshow.com, should be free. I’ve taken a look at quite a few of these screensavers so I know what I am talking about. Awesome Butterflies Screensaver is advertised as free, but once I finished installing it, I kept seeing a nagging reminder that said I’m using a shareware version and that I should register otherwise I can use the screensaver free of charge for 7 days only. All the other screensavers offered by free-slideshow.com didn’t do that. In the Settings window they all said they’re registered to, and I quote, “Free Licence”.

This is on top of the other things that I did not like about the free-slidehsow.com-offered screensavers. Mainly the fact that they come bundled with AutoComplete Pro (luckily you can opt out of installing it), the fact that once the installation process completes the browser launches and you’re taken to the 7art-screensavers.com site, and the fact that it creates desktop shortcuts without your consent.

Moving away from the nuisances and annoyances, here are the things you are going to like about Awesome Butterflies Screensaver:

- Getting the screensaver off the web and onto your computer will only take a moment since the download weighs in at 5.8MB.
- Installing the screensaver on your Windows-powered computer will only take a moment as well. At the time of writing this and according to the developer, Sparkling Waves Screensaver works with Windows 9x, NT, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
- You can play with a few settings, such as: you can specify for how long an image will be displayed (the default is of 3 seconds), you can select which transition effect you want the screensaver to use and how fast the transition effect moves, you can choose if you want the screensaver to “cycle through all effects,” and you can even use on of the screensaver’s images as your wallpaper by selecting the “Put wallpaper on desktop” option.

Cons

• Nagging shareware reminder; you can use the screensaver free of charge for 7 days.
• Comes bundled with AutoComplete Pro (make sure to opt out if you don’t want it).
• Redirects you to the 7art-screensavers.com site once the installation process completes. Cancel the installation and you will still be directed to the aforementioned website.
• Creates desktop shortcuts without asking (a launch screensaver shortcut and a 7 art screensaver shortcut)
